A peek into the pages of “Rest After War” by Camille Victoria
Camille Victoria is known for channeling pain and passion into poetry. After reciting her first spoken word piece at age 17 during a memorial for a slain friend, the tragedy inspired Camille to continue writing as a method of healing.
Writing is Camille’s deepest passion where she delivers conversation poetry and performs each piece with grace and power.
“Writing has helped me to survive, heal, and grow,” she says.
In 2017, she self-published her first book “Seventh Rhythm: A Poetic Work of Faith.” Since its publication, she has performed spoken word for singer/actor Tyrese, Rev Run, business leaders in the southeast, and often at open mic nights in the heart of Atlanta.
Her recently published second book “Rest After War” is dedicated to those fighting mental health battles. We asked Camille a few questions to learn more about her latest piece.
The inspiration behind "Rest After War”
RAW was inspired by the book of Joshua and the Israelites’ war for their territory. It was also driven by my need for rest during my own battle with PTSD, dysphoria, and depression. When I felt like I didn’t want to live anymore, my prayers morphed into war cries that I expressed through poetry.
What Camille wants people to feel while reading and after
I want the readers of to not only feel like they can survive mental and emotional trauma, but that they can attain peace and experience a new normal.
"Rest After War" in three words:
Prophetic
Melodious
Timeless
