Tuning in: Meet the creator of the series ‘Sh!t Black Girls Think'

We love a good laugh, especially when it’s relatable art that mirrors real life. That’s what Alisha Johnson has created with her series ‘Sh!t Black Girls Think' (SBGT) available exclusively on TikTok with new episodes premiering every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Alisha is the creative force behind SBGT. Having grown up immersed in theatre, Alisha developed a profound appreciation for the power of storytelling from a young age. In the last year, Alisha has taken bold steps into the realm of show creation, turning dreams into reality.

SBGT is not just a series; it's a testament to the passion, dedication, and creative vision that Alisha brings to the table. Through this venture, Alisha invites you to share in the journey — from the formative years spent in the arts to the recent strides into show creation. When she is not dreaming up new stories to tell you can find her spending time with her family and friends, booking a weekend trip to the city or binge watching a new show.

Here we learn more about the series and the inspo behind it.

What's "Sh!t Black Girls Think" about?

‘Sh!t Black Girls Think' revolves around the lives of three best friends: Naomi, Willow, and Alexis (a nod to N.W.A.) as they are experiencing the weird space of their mid-twenties, grappling with career aspirations, the intricacies of friendship, and the everyday realities of life. It is the perfect blend of humor and social commentary, using wit and satire to address complex societal issues and the challenges of adulthood.

What's the inspiration behind SBGT?

The inspiration behind SBGT stems from my post-graduate years spent in Atlanta with my friends. It was a time of growth, laughter, and the forging of deep connections. The unique blend of experiences we shared during that period became the heartbeat of this series. SBGT is a love letter to those moments — the late-night conversations, the spontaneous outings, and the shared triumphs and challenges. It's a celebration of friendship and the city that played host to some of the most formative chapters in my life.

How do you want the viewers to feel when watching the series?

Our tagline, 'Something for the group chat,' embodies the essence of what we aim to create with the web series. We want to provide a sense of warmth, inclusivity, and the joy of shared experiences as a Black women. So, when you tune in, we hope it feels like joining a conversation among friends, where you can be yourself and enjoy a good KI-KI.
