The story behind the “no makeup” look

Coming out of the pandemic, so many of us shifted from full glam looks on the daily to more natural makeup looks to showcase our skin and highlight our favorite features. In addition, this has helped simplify our routines and elevate the “five minute face.”

Four trends to help you nail the “no makeup” look

Fluffy brows

Were you a victim of over-tweezing in the 90s? An easy, low effort way to make your brows appear thicker and fuller is with the laminated brow look. Brow lamination is a service that perms the brows into a vertical direction, making them appear thicker. This service can easily run you $100+ at a salon, but using a high hold brow gel is a great way to try the look at home for less.

How to: Take a high hold brow gel and brush your brows up and over towards your temple. By brushing up, this will elongate each hair creating the appearance of a fuller brow.

Serum concealer

Serum concealers have a thin, fluid like consistency that gives a skin-like, never cakey look. It’s a great way to add a little coverage to your undereye area or on a pimple without a full face of makeup.

How to: Apply a thin layer of concealer to your under eyes or a blemish and blend out with a brush to maximize coverage.

Liquid blush

If I had to choose my desert island beauty product, it would be liquid blush. It gives a soft flush to the cheeks and adds a healthy glow. My favorite part about liquid blush is it’s staying power — it doesn’t fade as easily as powder.

How to: Take a small amount of liquid blush and dot on the apples of your cheek. Blend upwards towards the temples using your fingers, beauty sponge, or a makeup brush. Start with a tiny amount of product, liquid blush is very pigmented!

Tinted lip balms

Your lips, but better! I love using tinted lip balms for a flush of color on the lips without needing to do a high maintenance lipliner, lip stick, and lip gloss combo. Tinted lip balms have a lightweight, hydrating feeling while giving a light wash of color. Since the finish is more sheer, using a tinted balm is a fun way of trying out bolder colors like berries or reds.
