Staying hydrated with Cure Hydration

Hydration is key before, during, and post-workout — and in general — and Cure Hydration was founded on a mission to make sure of it.

Lauren Picasso, Cure Hydration's founder, noticed she would get headaches and nausea after a long run or bike ride.

It turns out she was just dehydrated (along with 75% of America).

Senior Marketing Manager, Hannah Bender tells us the story behind Cure, and the importance of hydration.

The development of Cure

Lauren tried to drink more water, but it was a struggle to drink enough. Even when she did, she still didn't feel her best. Then she found out that hydration isn't about just drinking water, you also need to replace electrolytes lost through sweat, sleep, drinking alcohol, and regular daily life — and water alone can’t do that.

When she looked at the electrolyte drinks out there, she was shocked. They were all neon-colored and full of sugar and artificial ingredients. So she decided to make her own — an electrolyte drink mix with only plant-based, non-GMO ingredients that tastes as good as it feels.

Statistics show that a lot of people are dehydrated, but why?

Dehydration typically refers to a deficiency in total body water. While there’s no one clinical definition for dehydration, it’s still a very real phenomenon that affects millions of people. While it may seem like dehydration is the simple case of getting too little water, it’s actually a bit more complex than that, and not everyone knows.

Not only can dehydration mean a deficit in water, but also in electrolytes (electrically-charged molecules such as sodium and potassium that play many vital roles in your body). Often people are dehydrated because they're not getting the right amount of water for their bodies. While the standard recommendation is to get eight glasses of water per day, some of us require significantly more than that.

Plus, drinking beverages like coffee and soda, or eating foods that are not high enough in water content can also contribute to dehydration.

Benefits of healthy hydration levels

The truth is, hydration is essential for your body to function. Hydration is the foundation of health. Every organ, tissue, and cell in your body needs water to work properly. Hydration is also intrinsically linked to your energy levels.

It’s important to note that water makes up about 60% of your body and is involved in many important functions, including:

* Flushing out bodily waste
* Regulating body temperature
* Helping your brain function
